| Resumo | The wavelet transform is able to describe a time series in time-frequency terms, which provides an opportunity to determine the dominant modes of the signal as well as their time evolution. It also provides easier detection of short duration events in long series. Gravity waves and other coherent structures, such as Kelvin-Helmholtz waves are present during stable conditions and their interactions with the mesospheric sodium layer often reveal wavelike features throughout the layer. In this work, we show the usefulness of the wavelet transform for detecting these structures and their characteristics in the mesospheric sodium layer measured by a lidar installed at São José dos Campos (23° S, 46° W), Brazil. |
